

Jemma Freese is a multi-genre musician, composer, arranger and improviser who plays and uses keyboards, synths, piano, vocals and spoken word. Her compositions use her unique palette of vocal manipulation, contemporary jazz harmony and math-jazz riffs. She is a graduate from Leeds Conservatoire where she studied Pop Composition and Jazz vocals and graduated with First BA Honours and received The Directors Prize. She plays keyboard and backing vocals for Maximo Park.

Jemma has performed her music at venues like The Royal Albert Hall, The Glasshouse, Vortex Jazz Club, Jazz In The Round: The Cockpit and festivals such as EFG London Jazz Festival, Manchester Jazz festival and Leeds Jazz Festival. She has supported artists such as Portico Quartet, Ruth Goller, Emma Rawicz and Courtney Pine. Her music has been played on BBC Radio 3, BBC Radio 6, Soho Radio and BBC Introduces. She has been awarded places on the following schemes; Serious Take Five, Brighter Sounds with Nubya Garcia, Youth Music Next Gen, Manchester Jazz Festival Hothouse, Jazz North Introduces, Jazz North northernline, Music Leeds: Launchpad and received funding from Arts Council's DYCP.
